Employee surveys at AdventHealth Celebration hospital had identified need and interest in better Solid Waste Management (SWM). Faced with limited recycling at the hospital, many employees were taking discarded materials home for curbside recycling.

AdventHealth Celebration’s leadership reached out after hearing about the successful recycling program ecoPreserve had implemented at AdventHealth Apopka. Managers and staff from every department participated in initial consultations and a comprehensive site assessment. Based on that research, discussion, and observations, the team specified waste minimization and diversion goals. After developing hospital-specific training materials, the consulting team led on-site staff training. The team also assisted in organizing and supporting an employee-led “Green Team” to advance progress towards set sustainability goals.

Solid Waste Management (SWM) program results are visible throughout the hospital. Clearly labeled recycling bins have been placed in guest areas, break rooms, and areas requiring high-volume collection. After 30 days, ecoPreserve’s audits found that over 72% of the collected materials were clean. Photos of common contaminants led to further communication and repositioning of several bins. A second audit found all recycling issues resolved and reported continued SWM excellence at the hospital.
