Amway Center and Camping World Stadium – GBAC STARâ„¢ Facility Accreditation

  • Documented 20 GBAC standards and implementation
  • Biorisk assessment and mitigation recommendations

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic caused many public events to be canceled and venue doors to be locked. Deep cleaning and phased reopening soon became popular responses to biohazard risks. The City of Orlando looked for a more comprehensive approach to risk mitigation for its 875,000 square-foot Amway Center and the 65,000-seat Camping World Stadium.

In response to that urgent need, ecoPreserve found an internationally recognized program to avoid and respond to the COVID-19 biohazard. The Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) had developed protocols and set standards for enhanced cleaning, along with hospital-proven disinfection techniques and best operational practices. That program, GBAC STAR, would also certify that its 20 required elements had been proven with detailed documented evidence. ecoPreserve assisted Amway Center and Camping World Stadium staff in researching and documenting those elements and managing communications with the GBAC Review Committee.

This collaborative effort achieved vital certifications for both venues. Even during the pandemic, adherence to GBAC STAR protocols has enabled professional basketball, and other sporting events to responsibly continue.
