Orlando International Airport STC – LEED BD+C Certification

  • Facilitated credit compliance for LEED Building Design and Construction (BD+C) certification
  • Development of an onsite environmental standards program
  • Environmental design, materials, and HVAC system assessment

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has been an early adopter of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. Among the certifications they have earned, three were at Orlando International Airport (OIA):

  • Westfield Fire Rescue Station
  • South Automated People Mover/Intermodal Terminal Facility (APM/ITF)
  • GOAA Maintenance Administration

For this project, Hensel-Phelps (the Construction Manager at Risk) brought in ecoPreserve to assess and document every facet of the LEED v4 Building Design and Construction (BD+C). To complete the submittal, low-emitting materials were listed, checklists were created, and LEED training was provided to subcontractors. As this was accomplished, ecoPreserve developed an onsite Environmental Standards Compliance (ESC) program.

The OIA South Terminal C assessment resulted in GOAA/OIA earning the first LEED v4 New Construction certification in Florida. Today, the ongoing ESC program supports the airport’s safe best practices and the management of Indoor Air Quality and construction waste.
