An ENERGY STAR qualified facility meets energy performance standards set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), uses less energy, is less expensive to operate, and causes fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings in its class. EPA compares energy use among other, similar types of facilities on a scale of 1-100. If a building achieves a score of 75 or higher is eligible for the ENERGY STAR and is good candidate for LEED for Existing Buildings.
